Here was a tiny challenge! I was given a very pretty natural form Octahedron pink diamond crystal. Jane (who has owed the gemstone for many years) didn’t want the form of the gem to be changed in anyway but wanted it to be held securely so it could be worn. We both have a love of Birds so the little Birdcage came to mind.
The piece is hand crafted in 9ct gold, measures 2cm in height. I started with the base of the “cage” and then the setting for the diamond. This had to fit neatly inside the cage base and have enough space for the claws to hold the Diamond in place. The setting measures about 3mm x 3mm. I then created the wire domed basket.
There is also a little door which opens too! Top three images show the charm at different angles. The bottom left image shows some of the construction and finally the bottom right image gives an idea of scale.
