BRITISH MUSEUM SHAKESPEARE EXHIBITION 01 October 2012

Earlier this year I exhibited at The British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate. This is where I attracted the attentions of The British Museum.

I was asked if I had some Tudor design jewellery available for their Shakespeare Exhibition - Staging the World.

Here are the designs they selected.

This piece is from The Hardwick Hall portrait of Elizabeth I and is based her Sleeve Pendant

This design is a pendant from a large collar worn by Elizabeth I circa 1590's

"BESS" This piece is dated circa 1580 - 1620 and is based on a piece from the Cheapside Hoard. A collection of Jewellery found in 1912 in London. An incredible find of hundreds of pieces of jewellery, some finished and some not, along with many loose gemstones and pearls. The collection was discovered by some workmen while they were dismantling a building.  I have created these pieces in Sterling silver, 22ct gold plating, using Garnets, Amethysts and fresh Water pearls. All designs bear full British Hallmarks assayed in Sheffield (The Tudor Rose) along with my makers mark.

12th Century Reliquary 06 March 2012
Here begins the results of some wonderful commissions I gained last year. Starting with this 12th Century Reliquary. The original is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. My version is in silver, 22ct Gold plated. The centre is set with a large carved Ruby with Mary and Child, on the reverse of the large Ruby is carved a depiction of Jesus. The surrounding gems are Jades, Iolite and Rubies along with fresh water pearls. The inside is set with a hand cut Rock quartz in two halves. All the over the outside and inside the lid I have decorated the piece in filigree patterns, this aspect is not on the original.  Additionally I have included here further images of the piece during the construction.

.

The images below show the piece during construction.
